Michael D. Dortch is a civil trial lawyer with extensive experience litigating cases involving commercial, contract, and probate issues, environmental and energy law, real property rights, and the telecommunications industry.

In his environmental practice, Mike has successfully represented clients concerning CERCLA cost recovery actions, site remediation activities, mining reclamation, petroleum contamination, and emergency response. The editors of Cincinnati Magazine, in conjunction with Law and Politics Media, Inc., named Mike an "Ohio Super Lawyer" in the category of Environmental/Land Use law.

In his energy practice, Mike represents one of Ohio’s investor owned utilities in numerous matters, including the restructuring of the electric industry in Ohio. Mike has also represented rural electric cooperatives, a fully-integrated energy services company, and natural gas local distribution companies. In addition, Mike has represented several entities before the Ohio Power Siting Board in connection with their efforts to construct electric generation plants.

Mike has represented telecommunications service providers in all manner of cases since 1990. In addition, he advises developers and other large consumers of telecommunications services regarding their telecommunications issues.

Mike graduated summa cum laude from Capital University Law School, where he authored a Comment published in the Capital University Law Review, Due Process and Punitive Damages: Does the Constitution Require Definitions of Degrees of Culpability? 18 Cap. U. L. Rev. 545. His comment later served as the basis for arguments presented to the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.
